Institute Overview

Each year, men and women are selected from SW Georgia and its surrounding areas to join Downline’s student body. This group of people represents the diversity of the body of Christ, crossing denominational, racial, and generational lines.

Our Curriculum

The institute answers two fundamental questions:

1. What did Jesus really mean when he said, “Go make disciples of all nations”?

2.  How do we do that?

In order to answer these questions, our curriculum focuses on what it means to make disciples, theologically, philosophically and practically. At the Institute, we’re going to teach, apply, experience and practice this curriculum together.  Secondly, we teach the Bible. We don’t take any shortcuts because ultimately, we want the Word of God to be our foundation. We start in Genesis 1 and end in Revelation 22, with 70 percent of the Word taught expositorily.

Our curriculum includes several types of biblical training:

During these sessions, you will be exegetically taught the entire narrative of the Old Testament, highlighting Genesis, Joshua, I Samuel and Daniel, as well as other Old Testament books in the fall. In the spring, you will cover Matthew, Romans, Ephesians, Hebrews, II Timothy and Revelation, taught by some of the best local and national Bible teachers and pastors in the country, as well as Downline Staff.

The disciple-making aspect of the Institute is the heartbeat of Downline Ministries. While the Bible and biblical manhood/womanhood are what God calls us to teach men and women, discipleship is how we teach them.  Making disciples was Christ’s strategy for building followers who would reproduce their faith multi-generationally into others (2 Tim 2:2). We’ll learn how to apply Christ’s strategy for world impact in our lives today.

Biblical Manhood/Womanhood

The content of our manhood/womanhood curriculum is absolutely essential for men and women to understand in order to know what it means to live as Godly people in a depraved generation. In this piece of the Institute, you will receive practical training on how to live out your biblical calling and grow as a person of God. Whether single or married, with or without children, the role and calling God has given us as men and women will serve as a building block for a lifetime of faithful leadership in the home, church and community.

The Institute Experience

The Downline experience is nine months for the rest of your life.

Objectively, you’ll get a walk through the Bible that’s transformative in your own life and transferable to the lives of others. You will receive notes (some that you take and some that are given to you) on the entirety of God’s Word. You will also receive teacher and student guides for everything we cover at the Institute, and gain access to an online library of audio and video that you can listen to and review for the rest of your life.

Subjectively, you’ll receive a transformed heart. Students come to Downline looking for the tools they need to be a better disciple-maker and leave with a heart transplant, transformed by the power of the Gospel. The best thing your Downline experience can give you is heart transformation, saturation in the gospel, and the ability to build healthy disciples for the sake of Christ.

Class Schedule and Requirements

The Downline Institute requires two hours per week of live class time being taught by local and regional pastors/teachers/Downline staff, with an additional two hours of online video classes that you can access on the My Downline website or phone app.   To fulfill your Institute commitment, we also ask that you keep up with assigned Bible reading, reteach one lesson a week, and memorize assigned scripture each month. When you commit to the Downline Institute, you aren’t just committing to take in the Word of God, but to understand and transfer what you are learning into the lives of others. If you do have to miss a live class, you can catch up on what you missed by listening to the audio online.
