Chris Baker serves as the executive director for Downline Southwest Georgia. Though Chris is originally from Memphis, TN, he and his wife Kelli, an Albany native, have called Albany, Ga. their home since 2007. They share a deep desire to be part of God transforming Albany and all of Southwest Georgia through the Gospel.
Chris surrendered his life to Jesus Christ as a child after being introduced to Him by his parents who were passionately following and serving Jesus through a Christian high-school outreach ministry called Young Life. After graduating from Auburn University, and marrying Kelli in the summer of 2000, he spent the next 11 years in sales, mostly in the medical industry. In the fall of 2011, he followed an unexpected call from God to leave his sales career and help begin a discipleship ministry called New Heights Ministries.
Passionate about the need for equipping people with a “great commission lifestyle” through Biblical disciple-making, New Heights Ministries soon connected with Downline Ministries in Memphis and spent the next two years leading people in south Georgia through the Downline Institute Online. After seeing the dramatic effects on the lives of the students participating in the Downline’s online training, Chris saw a need to partner more fully with the local churches in the Albany area by inviting local pastors to actively participate in equipping the men and women in their community. This led Chris to join the Downline team full-time in the summer of 2014 to plant a live Downline Institute in Albany, GA. That’s when Downline Southwest Georgia (SWGA) was born.
Fifteen years of marriage and three children into their family story, Chris and Kelli are as excited as ever about serving and loving the Lord Jesus Christ and the Albany area in and through their church and through Downline Southwest Georgia.
